2 people died after being swept by Florida currents: What you need to know

  • Two people, including a 3-year-old child, died on Friday in Florida. A third person, who tried to save them is still missing after being swept away by currents. The incident happened at Apollo beach, about 17 miles from Tampa.

  • The police received the 911 call at around 7.30 pm about two people being swept away by the currents.

  • The 911 caller’s boyfriend jumped into the water to save them, however, was himself swept away too.

  • The adult man with the child was recovered later deceased, and the boy was rushed to hospital where he died.

  • The person who jumped in the water has been identified as 27-year-old Kristoff Murray. The police are calling him a hero for trying to save other people’s lives with our caring for his own.

  • The search and rescue teams are still trying to search for Murray, however, the currents are too strong.
