Angelina Jolie wins appeal against Brad Pitt: What you need to know

Angelina Jolie got a victory on Friday when an appeals court judge ruled in her favor to remove the judge they hired for their divorce and child custody case. The judge that was removed, John Ouderkirk, made a ruling last May in favor of Brad Pitt, granting the former couple a joined custody of their five minor children.
The couple met in 2004 and got married in 2014. However, after two years of marriage, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 citing "irreconcilable differences”. Since then, the couple has been involved in a fierce battle regarding the custody of their children. They share six children together, however, their oldest son, 19-year-old Maddox is not subject to custody decision.
After May’s ruling, according to sources, Angelina thought that she and her children were denied a fair trial since the children were not allowed to testify before the court. After Jolie filed for divorce, Brad Pitt was investigated for child abuse allegations but was cleared later.
A spokesperson for Brad Pitt said that the evidence used by John Ouderkirk in making his decision is still valid. There was no comment made by Jolie’s representative.
