Biggest Hail Storm yet in the Bay Area, California: What you need to know


The first band of rain passed over the region Tuesday morning, with the heaviest showers reported over the North Bay. The next band of rain is expected to hit the Bay Area at about 5 p.m., and showers are expected to be widespread and scattered through the evening and into Wednesday.

There's a chance for thunderstorms across the region Tuesday and Wednesday, and these could deliver short periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, small hail and lightning. Forecasters will be watching for thunderstorm development near wildfire burn scars, such as in the Santa Cruz Mountains, as brief bouts of very heavy rain could trigger isolated debris flows. Around 11:25 am, San Jose area reported a heavy hail showers and thunder.
