Boko Haram leader is dead: What you need to know

The Islamic State West African Sovereign Terrorist group said on Sunday that Abu Bakar Shekau, the leader of rival Nigerian militant Islamic group Boko Haram, has died.
According to Reuters, the audio of ISWAP leader Abu Musab Albarnawi confirmed his death. It is reported that he died detonating an explosive on himself after a battle between two groups.
Nigeria intelligence reports also said Shekau is dead. Nigerian political analysts have said that Shekau's death could mark the end of the violent rivalry between the two groups.
Neither Boko Haram nor the Nigerian Government has confirmed his death as he has been reported dead numerous times before only to resurface.
Shekau killed more than 30000 people through Boko Haram in 2009 and forced nearly 2 million people to flee their homes.
