BTS who include RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook announced they are taking a hiatus to focus on their solo careers. The group detailed tentative plans for solo projects and explained to fans that they need the time to take an extended break.

The group announced their decision in a pre-taped special that was released as part of FESTA, an annual celebration tied to the anniversary of the group’s debut. Gathered in the house where they first lived together as a band.

RM said while they’ve accomplished incredible feats as a band, the members still need to develop and mature as individual people and artists. J-Hope added, “I think we should spend some time apart to learn how to be one again. I hope you don’t see this as a negative thing, and see it as a healthy plan. I think BTS will become stronger that way.”

Jimin said, “We can’t help but think of our fans no matter what, we want to be the kind of artists that are remembered by our fans. I think now we’re starting to think about what kind of artists we each want to be remembered as.”

As far as the individual careers are concerned, the first to debut will be J-Hope, who said he’s been busy with preparations and is set to headline Lollapalooza this summer as a solo act. Jimin, Suga, and Jungkook plan to release solo projects in the future as well.
