India is seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent days. The country, which everyone believed handled the covid situation quite efficiently up until last year, is not struggling to contain the increasing number of cases. Here is everything we know about the situation in India:

  1. On Sunday, India reported 25.320 cases of COVID-19, its highest tally in this year.

  2. In the last 24 hours, 161 people lost their lives to COVID, taking the death tally to 158,607.

  3. The state of Maharashtra reported the highest number of cases in the country on Sunday, a total of 16,620.

  4. The district of Nagpur in Maharashtra has gone into lockdown starting Monday due to the increasing cases. Nagpur has reported the second-highest cases in all the districts in the country.

  5. ‘Quarantine fatigue’ is thought to be the reason for this sudden jump in the cases. Indoor spaces such as offices, restaurants, wedding or conference venues, and cinema halls have all reopened across India.

  6. More than 30 million people in India have already received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine.

  7. Several other states in the country: Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Haryana are also reporting an increase in the number of cases.
