Crane collapse kills 5 in British Columbia: What you need to know

  • On Monday morning a crane collapsed in Kelowna, BC at St. Paul Street. Police said yesterday that were multiple casualties however, the exact number of fatalities were not released.

  • Today, police confirmed that 4 people have died and 1 person is still buried under the rubble. Adam MacIntosh, RCMP Inspector confirmed that the 4 individuals who died were all men and were found at the scene of the accident.

  • One person among the four was transferred to the hospital in a critical condition but died later yesterday. There was another person who was transferred to the hospital after enduring some injuries, but he is expected to survive.

  • The exact cause of why the crane collapsed is still not clear and an investigation is going on. The building around the accident area has been asked to evacuate to avoid any further accidents.

  • MacIntosh said, “Right now, what we want to do is everything we can to support the investigation and support WorkSafeBC and support those families.”
