George Floyd’s family and the city of Minneapolis settled a civil lawsuit on Friday. The city has agreed to pay the family $27 million over the Black man's death in police custody. George Floyd died on May 25 last year when policeman Derek Chauvin, who is white, pressed his knee against his neck for about nine minutes. L. Chris Stewart, an attorney working with Floyd’s family said that this civil settlement doesn’t have to do anything with the trial for the murder of Floyd, jury selection for which is underway. Opening statements in the murder trial are expected to be latest by March 29.
