Instagram launches new ways to protect the community from Abuse: What you need to know

Instagram has announced a set of new features to help protect people from abuse on Instagram.

A new feature 'Limits' has been introduced that's easy to turn on, and will automatically hide comments and DM requests from people who don't follow, or who recently started following.

It was designed to stop abuse from large numbers of people "who simply pile on in the moment", Instagram said.

Limits allow you to hear from your long-standing followers while limiting contact from people who might only be coming to your account to target you.

Limits will be available to everyone on Instagram globally from today. You have to go on privacy settings to turn it on, or off, whenever you want.

Instagram will now show a stronger warning at the very first time rather than after multiple attempts of posting offensive comments.
