Israel opens its Embassy in UAE: What you need to know

  • Yair Lapid is in UAE for the first official visit by Israel's minister to the Gulf state.

  • The trip comes nearly a year after the countries announced they would normalize ties.

  • During his two-day trip, Lapid will meet his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and inaugurate the Israel Embassy and consulate office at Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively. On Tuesday afternoon, he officially inaugurated Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

  • Lapid said, 'Agreements are signed by leaders, but peace made by people."

  • He thanked former Prime Minister Mr. Netanyahu, former president of the US Donald Trump, and current president Mr. Biden.

  • The visit is important as it will be the first official engagement between two countries after Israel –Gaza conflict.

  • The UAE and Israel both have different goals. UAE wants to normalize the relations with Israel supporting Palestine side by side, Israel sees economic cooperation with UAE and acceptance by the Arab States.
