Joe Biden to speak on Afghanistan: What you need to know

1. A White House spokesman said that President Joe Biden would update about the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, a pull out raising concern about a civil war there and drawing Republican's strong criticism.

2. The president will speak at 1:45 p.m. as he has been under pressure from the critics to give an explanation for his decision to withdraw. No major policy pronouncement would be expected.

3. The US abandoned last week Bagram airbase, effectively ending America's longest war. The Pentagon says that the US withdrawal is 90% complete.

4. After the decision to withdraw the US forces, the Taliban movement started fighting and drove back the Afghan army in many places. The commander of US troops General Austin Miller, warned last week that Afghanistan may be headed towards a civil war.
