Morocco's Intelligence identifies the potential threat of Sahel jihadists and sees them as a magnet for local cells. Jihadist groups in the Sahel region in Mali which recruit and train their followers online, represent Morocco's biggest militant threat, the head of Morocco's counterterrorism agency said.

Statistics prove that an ongoing extremist threat in Morocco exists, especially after the rise of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq caused a surge in jihadist activity that persists even after the group was defeated in its heartland.

Morocco, having some of the best counterterrorism strategies and intelligence capabilities, has offered valuable intelligence that helped arrest Jihadists and thwart terrorist attacks in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, and recently in the United States.
