Starting June, all schools in New Zealand will offer free period products as part of efforts to put an end to period poverty. Concerns have been raised about female students skipping classes because they cannot afford menstrual products.

PM Ardern of New Zealand confirmed in a speech that young people should not miss out on their education because of something that is a natural and a normal part of life for half of the population and that most of the impacted population are those on low incomes because they cannot afford or access quality period products.

The plan will cost the New Zealand government more than 18 million U.S dollars from now to 2024.
