Olympic 2020: What happened on 8th day: What you need to know


Elaine Thomson wins gold. She defends her title to win the Women's 100 m race at 10:61, breaking the Olympic record by 0.01 seconds. Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce came second at 10:74 with Shericka Jackson at 10:76. Jamaica made a clean sweep of the medals. It has been one of the best 100m races ever.


Mete Gazoz of Turkey won the men's archery title at the Tokyo games. It was the first gold medal won by a country other than South Korea. Gazoz beat auro Nespoli of Italy in the final. Takaharu Furukawa of Japan won the bronze medal.


France beat Japan to win gold in the first-ever Olympic judo mixed team event. The two bronze medals were awarded to Germany and Italy.


NewZealand beat France 26-12 to won the women's rugby sevens title at the Tokyo Olympics. The French, unbeaten in five games to reach the final, had to settle for silver. Fiji beat Britain to win bronze.


China won its 20th gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics as Lu Yunxiu edged Charlie Picon of France in women's windsurfing. Emma Wilson of Britain took bronze in sailing.


Kiran Badloe won the Netherlands' third straight gold medal in windsurfing RS:X. Thomas Goyard of France earned silver and Bi Kun of China was third, the first male athlete from China to medal in sailing.


Spain's Alberto Fernandez and Fatima Galvez won gold in mixed team trap shooting at the Tokyo Olympics. They defeated San Marino's Gian Marco Berti and Alessandra Perilli in the match. Brian Burrows and Madelynn Ann Bernau of the United States won the bronze medal.


Nina Christen of Switzerland won the women's 50-meter three-position rifle. Russian Yulia Karimova earned bronze.


American Caeleb Dressel won his third gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics with a world record in the 100-meter butterfly. He beat Milak, winner of the 200-meter butterfly, earned the silver and bronze went to Switzerland's Noe Ponti.


Kaylee McKeown of Australia won the 200-meter butterfly. The silver went to Canada's Kylie Masse with another Australian Emily Seebohm claiming the bronze.


Katie Ledecky closed with another gold in the 800-meter freestyle. Australian rival Ariarne Titmus claimed the silver and bronze went to Italy's Simona Quadarella.


Britain has claimed swimming gold in the new 4X100 m mixed medley relay. The silver went to China and bronze to Australia.


Ivan Litvinovich gave Belarus a second straight gold in men's trampoline beat Dong Dong of China. Dylan Schmidt of New Zealand earned the bronze.

Great Britain Jessica Learmonth, Jonny Brownlee, Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee won gold in triathlon mixed relay. The US took silver and bronze to France.

China's Lyu Xiaojun won gold in the men's 81-kilogram weightlifting category after Italian rival Antonino Pizzolato missed with a shot. Dominican Republic's Zacarias Bonnat won silver and Italy won bronze.
