Pokémon turns 25: What you need to know
The Pokémon franchise turned 25 this week, and this was celebrated across the globe. The humungous franchise had a humble start when the Game Boy titles "Pocket Monsters: Red" and "Pocket Monsters: Green" were first released in Japan in 1996. The Pokémon universe has 151 entirely fictional characters which many millennials have imprinted in their memories. The franchise got another big boost post-2016 when the popular mobile game ‘Pokémon Go’ and the movie ‘Detective Pikachu’ were released. The origin of Pokémon can be accredited to Tajiri Satoshi, who was inspired to create these characters thanks to his love for collecting bugs in his childhood.
