Pop star Kris Wu arrested on charges of rape: What you need to know

Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu has been arrested in Beijing on charges of rape. According to the police investigation, the star is accused of "deceived young women multiple times into having sexual relations”. Mr. Wu has denied all the allegations against him.

The first accusation was made against the 30-years-old star by a 19-years-old student Du Meizhu, who posted on social media that she had met Mr. Wu when she was 17. She said that she met Mr. Wu at a party and was forced into drinking alcohol. Later, she said, she found herself in his bed in the morning.

Ms. Du said that other women talked to her accusing him of sexual exploitation on the promise of jobs and other opportunities. Mr. Wu wrote on his social media after the accusations, "There was no 'groupie sex'! There was no ‘underage’! If there were this kind of thing, please everyone relax, I would put myself in jail!’

Mr. Wu’s lawyers are suing Ms. Du for defamation.

Kris Wu was a part of the K-pop boy band EXO. He left the band in 2014 and started his solo career as a singer, actor, and talent show judge.
