Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is expected to step down from his executive role, according to media reports.

Mr Dorsey founded Twitter in 2006 and has been serving as chief executive of both Twitter and payment firm Square.

He had been under pressure from some investors to step down last year, in favour of a CEO with a single focus.

Twitter stock was up on the news before being halted due to news pending.

It is unclear who is set to succeed Dorsey, but the next CEO will have to meet Twitter's aggressive internal goals.

Twitter did not respond to the news.
