Twitter on Tuesday suspended the account of top Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut over controversial tweets the actress posted. Here is everything we know about the situation.
Kangana posted a series of controversial tweets regarding the election loss of Narendra Modi led BJP in the Indian state of West Bengal.
She is a staunch supporter of right-wing leader Modi and has caused a spur in the past over her controversial tweets in his favor.
In the said tweet, the actress asked the Prime Minister to ‘tame’ Mamta Banerjee, the winner of the election, using his ‘Virat Roop’ (big statue). She also demanded ‘President Rule’ to be implemented in the state.
A Twitter spokesperson said on the situation, "We've been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy”.
Post the ban, the actress took on her Instagram story to rant about the whole situation also mentioning "disturbing news, videos and photos from Bengal of people being murdered, gang-raped and their houses being burnt".
Kangana is said to be the highest paid actress in Indian film industry and have won numerous awards for her performances over the years. Her upcoming file ‘Thalaivi’ is based on a female political leader in South India.
