WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram face global outage: What you need to know
WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have all gone down in a major outage. The three apps which are owned by Facebook and share the same infrastructure went down globally just before 5pm UTC.
More than 46,397 WhatsApp users reported issues using the global instant messaging service from about 4.40pm UTC time. Facebook users saw an error page or a message saying their browser could not connect. WhatsApp and Instagram users could access the apps but were unable to see any new content, including any sent or received messages.
When users try to access Facebook, they are getting a message, "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and will fix it as soon as we can."
Thousands of WhatsApp users have flooded social media to complain about the ongoing outage, which started around 4.55pm BST. There are multiple trolls and meme going on Twitter about the outage.
The root cause of this outage is still not clear and according to company reports, Facebook is trying to fix the problem as soon as possible.
